[Commencement.]
WHEREAS the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (in this Act referred to as “the Convention”) was adopted by diverse Countries in Lon‐ don, United Kingdom at the International Maritime Organisation on 2nd day of No‐ vember, 1973;
AND WHEREAS the Convention was modified by the Protocol relating to the Interna‐ tional Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (in this Act referred to as “the Protocol”) and was adopted by diverse countries in London, United Kingdom on the 17th day of February, 1978;
AND WHEREAS the Convention and the Protocol are collectively referred to as Interna‐ tional Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships 1973 and 1978 Protocol;
AND WHEREAS the Federal Republic of Nigeria has duly signed and ratified the Inter‐ national Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships 1973 and the 1978 Protocol and is desirous of giving effect to the Convention in the Federal Republic of Nigeria;
