Laws of the Federation of Nigeria has nearly doubled, from 376 to 725 Acts. The additions include the laws establishing federal universities and their teaching hospitals, the Acts behind dozens of professional and training institutes, and the statutes governing federal commissions, councils, boards and agencies - along with banking, finance and tax legislation. Among them are 35 Acts passed since 2020, the most recent from 2024.

Each letter group in Laws of the Federation is now sorted A to Z, so you can go straight to the Act you need instead of scrolling through an unordered list.

Search now matches every law by its title - the 349 new additions and more than a hundred existing Acts that previously only turned up in full-text results.

The Yobe State High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2021, which replace the 1980s rules the app carried; the Kaduna State (Sharia Court of Appeal) Rules 2024; the Ogun State Customary Court of Appeal Rules 2022; and the Supreme Court (Mandatory Upload of Electronic Copies) Practice Directions 2026, which take effect on 1 July 2026.

Abia 2009, Adamawa 1987 (as amended 1991), Borno 2006, Imo 2008, Kano Edict 1988, Ogun 2008, Sokoto 1987, and the earlier FCT, Katsina, Niger and Ondo rules. When you are reading an authority decided years ago, the rule it turned on is the rule in force then - not the current edition. Court Acts & Rules now holds 124 documents.

Many terms were listed in more than one place - a one-line summary under one letter, the full definition under another. Where a term appears twice, the app now keeps the complete entry.

Laws, principles, cases, drafts and court rules were each checked against the documents actually in the app. Entries that opened nothing, or opened a different Act, now open the right text.

The Evidence Act (as amended) had blank section headings through its table of contents and body, so sections could only be found by reading them. Nearly all have been restored from the section text.

A few Acts carried another law's name: the University of Calabar Act was listed as the University of Ibadan Act, and the two Customs Acts were swapped. Each now carries the title of the law it actually contains.

Pick what started the clock - judgment delivered, cause of action arose, service of process - and the app works out the deadline, citing the rule it used. Covers appeal windows, election petition timelines, pre-action notices and limitation periods, with State-varying periods clearly flagged. One tap sends the result straight into your Legal Diary with a reminder.

Have any page read aloud - hands-free for the commute. Legal shorthand is expanded so it's actually understandable out loud ("s. 36(1)(a)" becomes "section 36, subsection 1, paragraph a"), and reading continues with the screen off, controlled from the notification.

Your next court date or deadline now leads the home screen - overdue items first, in red. A home-screen widget shows the same thing without even opening the app; add it from the Legal Diary menu.

50 recent Supreme Court judgments and 50 recent Court of Appeal judgments added to the Cases section - filed both alphabetically and under their subject areas, covering jurisdiction, appeals, evidence, criminal law, land and title, fundamental rights, contract, election matters, and more.
