UNITED NATIONS CONVENTION ON CARRIAGE OF GOODS BY SEA (RATIFICATION AND ENFORCEMENT) ACT
An Act to enable effect to be given in the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the United Nations Convention on the Carriage of Goods by Sea; and for related matters.
[Commencement.]
PREAMBLE
WHEREAS a Convention entitled the "United Nations Convention on Carriage of Goods by Sea" has been duly adopted by diverse states at Hamburg in March, 1978 and the Federal Republic of Nigeria is desirous of adhering to the said Convention;
AND WHEREAS the Federal Republic of Nigeria has ratified the Convention on Carriage of Goods by Sea;
AND WHEREAS it is necessary and expedient to make legislative provision for the enforcement in the Federal Republic of Nigeria of the United Nations Conventions on Carriage of Goods by Sea;
Now THEREFORE IT IS:
1. Enforcement of the United Nations Convention on Carriage of Goods by Sea
As from the commencement of this Act, the provisions of the United Nations Convention on Carriage of Goods by Sea which are set out in the Schedule to this Act shall, subject as there under provided, have force of law and shall be given full recognition and effect and be applied by all authorities and persons exercising legislative, executive and judicial powers in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
2. Short title
This Act may be cited as the United Nations Convention on Carriage of Goods by Sea (Ratification and Enforcement) Act, 2005.
