This is an appearance under protest and usually means an appearance to object to the Court's jurisdiction to hear the case.
On How A Defendant Can Object To The Regularity Of Proceedings Where The Plaintiff Seeks To Compel His Appearance
This Court had in the case of Adegoke Motors Ltd v Adesanya & Anor. (1989) 3 NWLR (pt. 109) 250, this Court held as follows:
When a defendant desires to object to regularity of proceedings by which the plaintiff seeks to compel his appearance, he may, by leave of Court, enter a conditional appearance or an appearance under protest and then apply to the Court to set aside the said plaintiffs proceedings or he may, without entering an appearance, move to set aside the service of the writ." See Nwabueze v Obi-Okoye (1998) 4 NWLR (Pt. 91) 664.
